Nationwide — Aiden Wilkins, a 9-year-old African American boy from Collegeville, Pennsylvania, has made history as the youngest student ever to attend Ursinus College. While many children his age are in elementary school, Aiden is already working toward his dream of becoming a pediatric neurosurgeon.

Three days a week, Aiden attends neuroscience classes at Ursinus College, studying alongside students nearly twice his age. The rest of the week, he takes virtual courses at Reach Cyber Charter School, where he is enrolled as a high school sophomore.

His fascination with the brain began at an early age. “Ever since I was 3, I’d watch an anatomy video and was always fascinated when I saw the brain,” Aiden told NBC Philadelphia. That early curiosity has grown into a passion to help others.

“The reason why I want to be a pediatric neurosurgeon is mainly because I like helping kids around my age,” he explained. “It’s sad to see kids around my age with neuro-disabilities, so I want to help them out.”

Aiden’s mother, Veronica Wilkins, said she noticed his gifts when he was very young. She recalled how he read signs, corrected grammar, and even solved algebra problems before most children his age had learned basic math. After passing a gifted test, Aiden pushed for new challenges, which eventually led him to Ursinus College.

Veronica said she is proud of her son not only for his achievements but also for his determination. “I’m extremely proud of Aiden because it’s all him. It’s all organic. I’m just behind the scenes, and he goes for what he wants,” she said.

Aiden hopes his journey inspires others. “What I really want people to know is that from my story all you have to do is put in work to do whatever you want,” he said.
